Guest Hunting Report – July 2026
By Cody (USA)

There is nothing quite like returning to Africa, especially when you know you're coming back to friends. In July 2026, my wife and I returned to South Africa to hunt once again with Petrus Human and the team at Modirwe Safaris. It was our second safari together, and somehow it exceeded our first experience.

After flying from Atlanta to Johannesburg and spending a night at AfricaSky, Petrus collected us for the drive to Limpopo. We enjoyed lunch at the Vaalwater Hotel, checked our rifles, and finished the day watching another unforgettable African sunset.

Hunting Quality Over Inches

This safari wasn't about chasing record-book measurements. My goal was simple: hunt mature, old animals and enjoy every moment Africa had to offer. Petrus understood exactly what we wanted, and together we spent nine incredible days walking, stalking, tracking, and experiencing the African bush.

An Amazing Start

Our first full hunting day started perfectly when my wife harvested an Impala after a successful track. It was especially meaningful because Impala had escaped her during our previous safari.

The afternoon was spent pursuing the famous Grey Ghost—the Kudu. Although the kudu won that day's battle, the stalks were exciting and reminded us why walk-and-stalk hunting is so rewarding.

That evening ended around the fire enjoying delicious eland lasagna and great conversation.

The Adventure Continues

The following days took us throughout the beautiful Limpopo bushveld and along the scenic Matlabas River. Every day offered new opportunities and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

During the safari we encountered:

Kudu
Gemsbok
Waterbuck
Nyala
Sable
Zebra
Roan
Warthog
Bushbuck
Eland
Wildebeest
Monkeys
Black Impala

Every hunt was different. Some days required hours of patient stalking through thick bush. Others rewarded us with incredible opportunities after careful planning and teamwork between Petrus, the professional hunters, and trackers.

Memorable Trophy Animals

Some of the highlights included:

My wife's Impala
A beautiful old Waterbuck
Outstanding Nyala
Heavy Gemsbok
Magnificent Sable
Mature Kudu
Rare Black Impala
Old Eland bull
Warthog
Steenbok

Each animal represented patience, ethical hunting, and respect for mature game rather than simply looking for large measurements.

More Than Hunting

While the trophies were exceptional, what truly makes Modirwe Safaris special is everything surrounding the hunt.

Every evening we returned to camp where we enjoyed:

Incredible South African cuisine
Campfire conversations under African skies
Comfortable accommodation
Cold drinks after long hunting days
Stories shared with fellow hunters from around the world

One evening we met hunters from Spain, celebrated their buffalo success, and exchanged stories around the fire. Experiences like these become lifelong memories.

The Modirwe Difference

Throughout the safari, Petrus Human and his team worked tirelessly to provide an authentic African hunting experience.

What impressed us most was:

Genuine South African hospitality
Professional guiding
Ethical hunting practices
Excellent trophy quality
Beautiful hunting areas
Relaxed atmosphere
Attention to every detail

There was never a moment where we wanted for anything. Everything from the hunting to the food and accommodation exceeded our expectations.

Final Thoughts

After nine unforgettable days, we visited local taxidermy facilities before packing for home.

Looking back, I cannot say enough about how enjoyable this safari was. The hunting was outstanding, the company was even better, and every day offered something new.

If you're looking for an authentic hunting safari in Limpopo with exceptional trophies, experienced professional hunters, and genuine South African hospitality, I would not hesitate to recommend Modirwe Safaris.

This was more than another hunting trip—it was another unforgettable African adventure.
